JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo said the Free Agricultural Export activity provided new optimism for farmers and agricultural business actors, especially during the current Covid-19 pandemic where the economy is under pressure.
In the Merdeka Agricultural Export program launched by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Saturday (14/8/2021), Indonesia exported 627,399 tons of agricultural products with a value of Rp 7.29 trillion.
“Agriculture is a strength and a pillar of the presence of state power, agriculture is the main support, so let’s present optimism in this Independence of Exports,” he said in a written statement, Sunday (15/8/2021).

He explained that the independent export activity was the implementation of various existing programs, including the Three Times Exports Movement (Gratieks) program to accelerate exports of agricultural products, as well as mobilizing provinces, regencies and cities to accelerate exports.
In detail, the exports released this time included 564,550 tons of plantation commodities, 4,277 tons of food crops, 7,230 tons of horticulture, 4,013 tons of livestock, and several other commodities.
These exports were simultaneously carried out from 17 major airports and ports which were sent to 61 destination countries. Among them, sent to China, the United States, India, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, England, Germany, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, to Pakistan.

Syahrul said agriculture is one of the keys to moving the economy in the midst of a pandemic. Therefore, it continues to strive to increase exports of agricultural products.

He said, the pandemic is a challenge that is not easy and is faced by almost all countries. So the release of exports this time, which coincides with the momentum of Indonesia’s independence celebration, is expected to provide optimism for the agricultural sector.
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the value of agricultural exports in 2020 reached Rp 451.8 trillion, an increase of 15.54 percent compared to 2019 which reached Rp 390.16 trillion. The structure of export products consists of 89 percent of processed products and 11 percent of fresh products.
Meanwhile, during January-June 2021, the export value of agricultural products reached Rp. 277.95 trillion, an increase of 40.29 percent compared to the same period in 2020 which was Rp. 198.13 trillion. The structure of its export products is 91.75 percent of processed products and 8.29 percent of fresh products.
