mobilinanews (Austria) – Yesterday was still a hot gossip. Today it is a fact that Petronas will part with the Yamaha Sepang Racing Team. The Malaysian oil company will make an official announcement at the upcoming British Grand Prix.

The release of Petronas circulated among the media on the sidelines of the Austrian GP, Saturday (14-8-2021) at the Red Bull Ring Circuit. This short release only confirms the issues that circulated in the last few hours. The reason for the setback is also not clear and will likely be explained at the upcoming British GP. However, it is strongly suspected that financial problems were the aftermath of the long Covid-19 pandemic since the beginning of last year.

The certainty of Petronas’ departure was also revealed from the statement of Sepang International Circuit (SIC) CEO Azhan Shafriman Hanif to the media.

“We appreciate Petronas’ decision. We agree that the cooperation so far has been in line with our goals. We have enjoyed meaningful partnerships, outstanding achievements, and impressive shared experiences,” Azhan said.

“I believe this is not the end of our collaboration in nurturing and developing Malaysia’s talented drivers. We wish the team all the best on their next journey with this new entity.”

Quoted from, Petronas Head of Strategic Communications Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz said the partnership with SIC has proven Petronas’ R&D capabilities. He was proud of the results achieved so far.

“Together we have achieved several prominent moments in this sport. That is an indication of the success of what we are doing. On behalf of Petronas we thank SIC for the partnership so far,” he said.

There has been no rumor about the next SIC main sponsor. It’s just that their teams in Moto3 and Moto2 have to go next year to keep their MotoGP team alive. The team is also negotiating with Yamaha to determine the specifications of the motorcycle used next year.

The issue is that the Yamaha SRT team will get a share of the YZR-M1 Spec B for next year. This year two Petronas Yamaha Srt team jockeys glide with two technical specifications. Franco Morbidell uses the M1 Spec-A while Valentino Rossi uses the factory spec. Because, The Doctor is in the status of a factory rider in this team.

Next year Morbidelli was promoted to the factory team, while Rossi retired. The team must also immediately determine the 2022 line-up. The fastest way is to bring their drivers in the Moto3 and Moto2 teams that will disband at the end of the year. (rnp)
