KENDARIPOS.CO.ID – The transmigration area in Muna Timur Raya (Mutiara) is slowly starting to grow into a new agricultural center for the Muna Regency area. One of them is in the Transmigration Settlement Unit (UPT) Raimuna, Maligano District, which is now able to produce red ginger and white ginger commodities.

Head of the Manpower and Transmigration Office of Muna Regency, Fajaruddin Wunanto said, UPT Raimuna has been cultivating ginger plants, although only by using their yard. The location, which has only been opened since 2017, is currently inhabited by 180 families, both local and transmigrants from Java, most of whom have ginger plants.

“The ginger commodity will be developed continuously. Maybe just in the yard, in the future it will be cultivated on agricultural land that has been prepared for transmigrants. The area is 1.5 hectares per transmigrant,” he explained.

Fajaruddin revealed that the ginger commodity was chosen by transmigrants at UPT Raimuna because the market value was quite good. Per kilogram of red ginger is priced at IDR 60,000, while white ginger ranges from IDR 30,000 to IDR 40,000. Transmigrants also have no trouble finding buyers because a number of collectors come directly to the residents’ locations.

“The market is quite available. Some come to buy on the spot. Usually from Baubau City,” he said.

UPT Raimuna, which is located in Raimuna Village, Maligano, Muna, is a national pilot transmigration location that was directly determined by the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration in 2019. UPT Raimuna will be a pilot project for developing a transmigration area based on Trans Science Teknopark. UPT Raimuna itself was officially opened in 2017 and will continue to be the location for placing new transmigrants.

The area is indeed projected to become a new economic center for Muna. One of its main sectors is agriculture. Raimuna’s advantage is that it is supported by fertile land that has the potential to become agricultural fields.

“Now some UPTs already have companions. They are financed by the Ministry. We hope that this transmigration can become a new growth center,” he added. (ode/b)
