This is the reason why the Hyundai Staria is only available with a diesel engine

  • Share, Jakarta – Hyundai Staria is officially present in Indonesia as a new player in the Premium MPV segment. This car will face the Toyota Alphard or Honda Odyssey.

For the Indonesian market, Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) offers the Hyundai Staria with a choice of diesel engines. In fact, the average competitor is gasoline engine. Why?

“Globally, Hyundai Staria does have two engine options, namely 2.2 liter CRDi diesel and 3.5 liter V6. However, according to Hyundai Motors Corporation (HMC) itself, after looking at various sides and with full consideration, finally decided to give the Indonesian market a 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine,” explained Bonar Pakpahan, HMID Product Experts in a recent virtual conference.

To note, the Hyundai Staria relies on a 2.199cc CDIi inline 4 DOHC Common Rail Direct Injection engine that is capable of blowing power up to 177 PS @ 3,800, with 430Nm of torque at 1,500-2,500 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Then what kind of diesel fuel is suitable for the Hyundai Staria?

“According to HMC’s directives, the diesel fuel that can be used is diesel with a cetane number above 21 or fuel with EN 590 specifications,” explained Bonar.

“Well, the fuel that is very, very close to these specifications in Indonesia is PertaDex,” he continued.
