* PKK is the Spearhead of Food Safety
SEKAYU- Musi Banyuasin District Government through the Muba Health Office held a Food Safety Education Information Communication (KIE) Webinar, Friday (20/8/2021).
The Head of the Muba Health Office, Dr. H Azmi Dariusmansyah MARS, represented by the Head of Public Health Maryadi SKM MKes, conveyed the general opinion of the community that food consumed was only a source of energy. Rarely do people consider the quantity and quality of food.
“So we have to know the quantity and quality that will be consumed. Whether the food consumed has benefits or not, because food can affect a person’s health,” he said.
In addition, excessive food can cause degenerative diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and other diseases. Food and drink also serve as an introduction to the cause of disease. Thus the distribution of food needs to be considered in the processing, presentation and storage processes.
The lack of information related to halal and nutritious food and drinks is the main obstacle in today’s society.
“This webinar is one of the efforts to avoid the public from types of food that are harmful to health, which is reflected in the increasing knowledge and awareness of producers and consumers about food quality and safety. Increase public knowledge so that they can protect themselves from food that does not meet the provisions and understand the importance of food safety,” he explained.
Chairman of the TP PKK Muba Hj Thia Yufada Dodi Reza revealed, in addition to discussing the role of BPOM in the safety of processed foods, traditional medicines will also be discussed.
Thia Yufada, who appeared as the opening speaker, reminded that Indonesia is famous and rich in herbal medicines. According to him, these herbal medicines are a gift because the plants that grow and develop in Indonesia are very beneficial for the health of the body. All the blessings of these plants and foods are processed into herbal medicines which are used for generations, consumed according to the norms prevailing in society.
“We are not
just stop there, because as human beings who think, of course you must continue to develop for the safety of yourself, your family and the surrounding community. For this reason, BPOM is here, which will provide information and knowledge to all of us. It is related to various information about food, herbal food and drinks,” he said.
In the community, he added, there are two important groups that are the targets of this food safety IEC activity, namely producers and consumers.
Producers must be able to understand the processes and technicalities of processed foods and traditional, processed foods that are safe for consumption and ensure the true benefits contained in processed products. As for consumers, they need to know all the information if they want to consume food plants or herbal medicines. One of the important things is the safe consumption time limit (expired date), halal label from MUI, BPOM and production address.
The participants of the webinar consisted of the Chairperson of the PKK Mobilization Team in Musi Banyuasin Regency, who was also the UP2K-PKK supervisor, the majority of whom were engaged in the traditional beverage production sector. They will learn from the speaker from the Head of BPOM Palembang, Drs Martin Suhendri Apt M.Farm.
“Surely this material will be beneficial for all of us, both as producers and consumers. As a producer who can improve people’s welfare, and as a consumer, we can also increase knowledge about the health of the food to be consumed,” he concluded.
The Head of BPOM Palembang, Drs Martin Suhendri Apt M.Farm explained, the general description and condition of the current traditional medicine UMKN. According to him, traditional medicine as Indonesia’s natural potential needs to get support and management and assistance. MSMEs of traditional medicine are widespread throughout Indonesia (-+ 846 facilities). However, not all MSMEs of traditional medicine in Indonesia apply the Good Manufacturing Practice of Traditional Medicine (CPOTB).
“The total number of OT MSMEs that have been certified by CPOTB in all regions of Indonesia is 275 (33%) out of 846 OT MSMEs. So the development of traditional medicine is a long process starting from the process of providing raw materials, atnopharmacology studies, proving efficacy and safety, extraction technology, production processes, until the product reaches the patient’s hands,” he explained.
As for the classification of traditional medicine, among others, herbal medicine is a traditional Indonesian medicine that is used from generation to generation with empirically proven efficacy. Product Circulation License Number TR.123456789 (9 digits number) and Tl. 123456789 (9 digit number).
