Taiwan, Gizmologi – After releasing its newest gaming smartphone in early 2021, it didn’t necessarily make this Taiwanese electronics manufacturer feel satisfied. Although it has presented three different series, this time ASUS decided to launch two additional faster options through the ROG Phone 5s.
Yes, with the letter “s” after its name, ASUS ROG Phone 5s comes as an update that is not entirely new. But ASUS provides several improvements that are arguably quite important, one of which includes a better processor and increased screen responsiveness. Comes in two options, namely ROG Phone 5s & 5s Pro.

By design, both still look exactly the same as the previous version that we had reviewed. ROG Phone 5s features a large, color-adjustable ROG logo. While the 5s Pro uses a PMOLED screen, and has two additional capacitive buttons on the rear body. Can be used as a shortcut when playing games.
More Responsive Screen with 360Hz Touch Sampling
As previously mentioned, ASUS provides a more powerful chipset in this latest gaming smartphone. With Snapdragon 888+ which has a higher CPU clockspeed, the AI Engine has a 20% performance increase.
The standard variant is available with a combination of RAM and internal storage starting from 8/128GB. If you want the biggest one, the Pro variant is available in 18GB/512GB options. Without a microSD slot, users can use external USB storage in NTFS format when needed.
With the ROG Phone 5s series, the previous generation no longer won the best position in terms of the smallest touch latency. Thanks to the higher touch sampling rate (360Hz vs. 300Hz on the standard ROG Phone 5), the latency can drop by 0.3ms, now to just 24ms.
Other Specifications of ROG Phone 5s Still the Same
Considering that this is an enhanced version only, the other specifications of the ROG Phone 5s series are still the same. Call it the front screen which has a wide area of 6.78, uses a Super AMOLED panel with a response time of 1ms, a refresh rate of 144Hz, support for HDR10+ plus a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus.
The battery capacity is still as spacious as 6,000 mAh, supports 65W fast charging via the USB-C port, available both on the bottom and sides of the body. The goal? In addition to accessory support, also so as not to disturb users when they want to play chili charge while holding it in a landscape position.
The camera setup is still the same. In addition to the 24MP front sensor, there’s a triple camera setup with a 64MP Sony IMX686 main sensor, 13MP f/2.4 ultra wide-angle and 5MP macro. ASUS has also provided a total of four microphones around the body of the ROG Phone 5s, supported by noise reduction technology from Nokia’s OZO.
ROG Phone 5s & 5s Pro will be available in Taiwan on August 24, while global availability has not been announced. For the price itself, the ROG Phone 5s 16/256 is priced at NTS29,990 (Rp15 million). While the Pro variant with the highest memory of 18/512GB reaches NTS37,990 (Rp19 million), including the pending AeroActive Cooler 5 in the sales package.
