Criticism of Jokowi’s State Speech, KontraS: Only Lips Service to Protect Civil Liberties

JAKARTA, JITUNEWS.COM – Coordinator of the Commission for Disappearances and Violence (KontraS), Fatia Maulidiyanti, criticized President Joko Widod’s speech at the 2021 People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) annual session at the parliament complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Monday (16/8/2021). According to him, Jokowi’s statement in the speech shows that the government is increasingly ignoring human rights.

He then highlighted Jokowi’s statement that he appreciated the DPR for successfully passing the Job Creation Law. In fact, according to him the ratification of the Act has been flawed procedure.

“Even though formally, the drafting of the Omnibus Law is very problematic and not participatory,” said Fatia as reported by CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (16/8/2021).

Fatiya also highlighted Jokowi’s statement encouraging massive investment. According to him, this has the potential to increase cases of human rights violations. He assessed that the government had not recorded progress in upholding human rights in the past year.

“In the end, KontraS saw that President Joko Widodo’s speech was only lip service in maintaining civil liberties,” he continued.
