The construction of the main track or track lane of the Mandalika Circuit has been completed 100%. The third layer or the top layer of the main track of the Mandalika Circuit uses the best quality asphalt, so that the MotoGP motorbike is safe to ride at 330 km / h. In addition, motorcycle tires are also claimed not to slip easily when the track conditions are wet.

August 15, 2021 became a historic date, because the third or final layer of asphalt for the Mandalika Circuit was successfully spread 100% to the track lane area. This is a sweet gift for the Indonesian people who will celebrate independence day on August 17, 2021.

To be able to hold a MotoGP class racing event, the type of asphalt used should not be arbitrary. PT Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (PT ITDC) imported asphalt directly from the UK to polish the third or top layer. The top layer of asphalt used is Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA).

A number of workers complete the installation of the start light frame on the construction project of the Mandalika International Street Circuit track in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK), Pujut, Praya, Central Lombok, NTB, Tuesday (10/8/2021). The Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) as the promoter and operator of the circuit said that until the end of July 2021 the overall progress seen from track work and building support facilities on the Mandalika circuit track had reached 89.12 percent. Quoted from Antara, the Director of Construction of the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA), Dwianto Eko Winaryo, said that the track lane of the Mandalika Circuit has a number of advantages, one of which is that the racer does not slip easily during rainy conditions. This will reduce the risk of the rider falling when crossing on a wet track.

For information, Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) is a mixture of asphalt and is used to coat the top surface of asphalt. This asphalt layer is claimed to be able to strengthen the structure of the surface layer of the track so that it is strong, with the principle of stone by stone contact to strengthen the layer structure. Several circuits in the world that have used asphalt include the Silverstone Circuit (UK), Dubai Circuit, and the Philip Island Circuit (Australia).

“This type of asphalt has a high penetration power or Penetration Grade (PG) 82. And this PG 82 just came out from 2014-2015, so not all circuits in the world use this asphalt,” said Dwianto.

Previously, as stated by the President Director of PT Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), Abdulbar M Mansoer, the work of laying asphalt on the main track uses 3 finisher units, with satellite technology that ensures surface quality and slope according to design, and is directly supervised by professionals.

With asphalt materials and quality workmanship, the Mandalika Circuit is claimed to be safe to use for high-speed motorcycles. Abdulbar said that the Mandalika Circuit was one of the circuits that could offer a speed of 330 kilometers per hour while still having a high level of safety for drivers.

In total there are three layers of asphalt on the track lane of the Mandalika Circuit, which has a length of 4,310 m (4.3 km) with 17 bends. The lower asphalt layer uses stones from North Lombok and East Lombok. In addition, coarse aggregate Tau stone is also imported from Palu, Central Sulawesi, to strengthen the main track structure.

Additives Cellulose Fiber material from Germany was also imported to be able to glue stone and asphalt, as well as Limestone Filler from Ponorogo and Probolinggo, East Java.

After paving the main track, other facilities that are continuously being worked on are service roads, installation of concrete barriers, spectator stands, race control, paddock areas, hotel facilities, medical centers, as well as connecting road infrastructure.

If everything goes according to plan and passes homologation, then Indonesia can hold the FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK) on 12-14 November 2021.
